Master Sang Hoon, Lee (6th Dan, Renshi 錬士) began his Kendo practice in the winter of 1993 and has continued on for the past 25 years, with the last 15 years also as a Kendo instructor at martial arts school. Having started when he was a student, he has maintained regular training throughout his University and Graduate school (Hanyang University) days as well as during the busy time of developing his work career (Samsung Electronics) back in Korea. He immigrated to Canada back in 2007 and continued to practice Kendo with even more vigor and focus ever since.
He has competed in numerous tournaments held in both Canada and the US has won medals in them. He has participated in Shinpan seminars in North America as well as having exchanges with various Korean and Japanese dojos in order to improve his Kendo. From the experiences and the development gained through repeated attempts and challenges he strives to transfer those knowledge to his students. He also endeavours to boost enthusiasm and interest in Kendo in his students and as a result help them practice Kendo in a manner that helps them develop and improve as a person and find joy in training.

We offer classes in Sword Martial Arts.
Practitioners use a shinai (bamboo sword) to strike target areas on their armoured opponents to simulate real Japanese swordplay. Kendo was used by Samurai to safely train physically and mentally.
NORD KENDO is a member club of CKF(Canadian Kendo Federation) and Kendo Ontario Federation.
For a new beginner to be ready for sparring (or “keiko”), one must first learn the basics which involve basic etiquette, footwork, rules, swings, etc. The student is expected to practice the basics without armour until they can perform the actions sufficiently enough to replicate them in bogu (i.e. the protective gear) with a little more practice. With about 2 practices per week, the usual timeline is 2~4 months, but this also depends on the individual.
